Mike Power, Atomic Man
Hasbro's answer to the Six Million Dollar Man, and their backhanded attempt to trademark the word "Bionic" for toys, was Mike Power, Atomic Man. First released in 1975 on the heels of the Kung Fu Grip figures, he was an an effort to cash in on Col. Steve Austin's television popularity. When Hasbro tried calling him "the Bionic Man" Kenner, the official 6MDM licensee, cried foul, and Hasbro changed it to 'the Atomic Man,' but not before tagging a number of outfits with the forbidden word. These can sometimes be found, as a number made it out onto the market. The uniforms also show up with the remnants of cut-out tags, and the standard Atomic Man label. Atomic Man uniform sets are generally tough to find on the card, though the figures and Secret Mountain Outpost show up in their packaging fairly regularly.
Below, Mike Power's origin as told in a 1975 comic book advertisement.
